Begin by telling yourself that at least 50% of everything must go in the “no” pile, and the rest can go in a “yes” pile. Then, simply get rid of everything in the “no” pile.

If you are really in the mood to declutter, go through one or two more rounds of this process, cutting down your “yes” pile each time.

When you stack your belongings next to each other, and you are forced to compare them, you can truly get a sense of which things are most important to you.
