6 Eco-Friendly Methods of Waste Disposal

Waste disposal is one of the most talked about topics in the world. Disposing of hazardous waste should be done correctly. After all, the amount of waste generated daily in the world is always increasing.

While there are several ways to dispose of waste, one should always avoid harming the environment in any way. One of the most common causes of environmental pollution is improperly disposed of waste.

When household and commercial garbage (in the form of solid and liquid waste) is disposed of improperly, it is directly responsible for air, water, and soil contamination. This poses a huge threat to the lives of humans and animals.

The world is becoming depleted with every passing year, and if we, as humans, want to live on planet Earth, we must find proper waste disposal methods that do not adversely harm the environment.

In this article, we will brush up on all the eco-friendly and environmentally safe methods of waste disposal that will help you understand how you can save your environment and conserve energy.

1. Recycle your waste

Recycling waste instead of throwing it away after one use is the best way to save the planet. This reduces the amount of waste generated per household.

Often, people are unsure about which materials can be recycled and how to properly recycle them. For proper waste disposal, you must segregate the different types of waste that must be recycled into separate categories. Examples include plastic, paper, glass, metal, electronics, medical, and compost.

2. Compost your waste

Composting is one of the best ways to turn food waste into fuel for your favourite vegetable garden or flower bed. Even if you are not interested in gardening, you can always use compost material for your plants and flowers.

Composting your waste is extremely easy and can be done as a DIY project. You can take all the compost material from your kitchen and dig a hole in your vegetable patch. Then, cover it with soil and let it sit for a couple of weeks.

Leaves, vegetable scraps, and food leftovers are nitrogen-rich, and dead twigs and branches are carbon-rich materials that make excellent compost. Nitrogen-rich materials usually come from leftover vegetables, whereas carbon-rich materials come from leafy and woody garden waste. You should keep adding the carbon-rich materials at the bottom and cover them with soil to allow your compost to mix and blend into the soil.

Keep adding more compost materials until you fill your container. After it heats up, you should give it a week or two to cool down. After that, mix your compost occasionally to allow it to shred and blend into the compost. Make sure to mix and scrunch up your compost before you add it into the compost mix so that it blends quickly and easily into the mixture and is ready by summer.

3. Use waste disposal for hazardous waste

Hazardous and toxic waste can be extremely dangerous to the environment and human health if disposed of improperly. Used batteries, waste fuel like petrol or diesel, mercury-filled thermometers, and synthetic drugs are hazardous waste materials that must be disposed of properly to not adversely affect the environment.

Proper waste disposal should also be created so that hazardous wastes can be disposed of properly and prevent them from being dumped in random places like landfills where they cause severe damage to the soil, water, and air.

4. Consider bioremediation

Bioremediation is an affordable and eco-friendly way of disposing of hazardous waste. This method uses living organisms, like millions of microbes and bacteria, to decontaminate affected areas and eliminate biohazardous waste. It uses the natural process of degradation to convert it all into non-toxic products so that it doesn’t harm the environment.

It is extremely difficult to control and manipulate the natural degradation process, and it takes a significant amount of time as well. However, this process ensures that you have a pollution-free environment to live in.

5. Convert waste into energy

Converting your household garbage into energy is a great way to dispose of waste. This method is used to generate electricity and heat from existing waste materials so that it is used for the benefit of converting waste into energy using all non-recyclable materials.

Some industrial and commercial plants use anaerobic digestion to help convert industrial waste into energy by turning it into farm fertilizer and biogas.

6. Reuse items

The most simple and effective way to avoid disposing of waste that is not necessarily for the landfill is by simply reusing things to their maximum capacity. For example, one-time-use plastic containers can be used again to store household items. You can also save all the plastic shopping bags or buy a few sturdy cloth bags.

Similarly, you can reuse all beverage bottles to store water and then use them on hot days instead of throwing them away. This way, you will generate significantly less garbage.
